Independent Senator from Vermont Bernie Sanders sharply criticized the administration of former President Donald Trump, accusing it of lying to the American people about the situation in Iran. He warned of the danger that the United States could become involved in a new war based on false information.

Against a backdrop of rising tensions between Washington and Tehran, Sanders urged the country to focus on addressing domestic issues such as economic inequality, healthcare access, and education, rather than embarking on another military conflict that could have devastating consequences.
During his speech, Sanders recalled lessons from recent history, noting that this is not the first time the United States has been drawn into wars under misleading pretenses. He specifically referenced the Vietnam War in the 1960s and the 2003 invasion of Iraq, when the U.S. administration accused Saddam Hussein’s regime of possessing weapons of mass destruction arms that were never found.
Sanders said these actions came at enormous human and economic costs for both the United States and the affected regions, ultimately causing greater instability and suffering.

The senator insisted that Congress and the government must act with caution and transparency to avoid repeating past mistakes. He called for prioritizing diplomacy, dialogue, and multilateral mechanisms to resolve international conflicts instead of resorting to military force without clear justification or national consensus. Sanders warned that wars built on lies only serve particular military and private interests, while ordinary civilians bear the consequences.
Finally, the American politician emphasized the urgent need for the U.S. to redirect its resources and efforts toward improving social welfare, economic justice, and human rights protections, rather than spending massive budgets on war and foreign interventions. “Our focus must be on building a fairer, more equitable, and peaceful country,” Sanders concluded, urging his fellow lawmakers to commit seriously to truth and peace.
